Engaging Our Learners with Technology

I really connected to the videoes The Voice of the Net Generation and Redefining Literacy. Today, the Internet is a very popular media in which learning can take place. Paper is also primarily used, however there is a strong shift towards the Internet. Many teachers are not incorporating technology into the classroom, which is doing a great disservice to students today. I see it in my school everyday. Teachers are using traditional pen and paper methods to teach students which is boring for young learners. It is not interactive nor engaging for students that are used to having access to technology. Students can't wait to go home where they can use technology because they view school as a boring place where technology is not accessible.
With technology becoming more popular and powerful, it is so important for teachers to begin teaching students the basics of technology as early as possible. Teachers may say that their students are not engaged in learning, however it is because they are teaching students in a way that is not meaningful to them. They are used to using the Internet, text messaging, and ipods. Therefore, we need to move toward teaching technologic literacy because it is becoming more and more popular and it is important that students learn the basics so they can be successful in their technological endeavors.
